Post Exam Evaluation

Hey peeps. This the 5th time I went (6th time paying) for a CFA exam. And by far is the MOST challenging one of the lot. I'm not referring to the difficulty of the paper but to the things that happened to me prior to the exam.
1) As you know, my dad passed away a month ago, halfway through a revision class I paid for. I had to skip one day from the 3-day course, which means I missed out on two very important topics: Financial Reporting Analysis and Corporate Finance.
2) It took me about a week or so to recover from the mourning phase and then my stepmom brought up about the asset issue. She told me sad stories about how my dad was short on cash bla bla bla... I fell for it and felt really sad that he never told me all about this money issue. I even told my stepmom to give me her account number if things get too tight for them later. I went back and cannot stop thinking about it and it made me so miserable. Until I kidnap my mom and told her everything that was on my mind. That was the best decision ever because moms are the BEST. She helped me see through things and think more rationally. It was such an eye opener. Whatever hardship they think they are going through now, we have been through worse. Yes, mom was right. Actually my dad managed his assets well. He left behind 3 properties and minimal debt. Maybe not a lot of cash as one would hope, but I assure you, it is enough to last them a few YEARS if they manage it well. Here I am, trying to make ends meet while raising a young family. I have debts here and there. Why do I need to worry about them when I actually need to worry about myself more!!! On top of that, she told me she won't ask my uncle about the piece of land my dad shared with his brother. But a week later, she asked me to go back to Perlis with her to talk to my uncle about the land. Urghhh... Cakap tak serupa bikin. I didn't ask for my portion of the assets my dad left. Why do you need the land so bad. When people say you are materialistic, you denied but here you are clearly showing your character. Hide it a bit la. Very ugly la. I did say I will file the necessary papers for the land but now when I see how desperate she wants it, I'm going to leave it as it is. Everyone can go fly kite. I don't care about it anymore.
3) My blackberry broke down last week. The screen just went blank. Fine. I don't need it anyway since I use it only to BBM people. Wednesday, I broke my baby's Samsung Galaxy Tab. It was beyond repair. And I panicked because she has grown attached to that toy of hers. So Thursday I went to Endah Parade with hubby to buy her a new cheap tablet, brand: Ainol. Never heard the name before but was supposed to be good for cheap tablets range. Today, that screen went blank. Adeihhh...
4) I got conjunctivitis a week before exam and it took so long to recover that I had to go to exam with red-eyes. It means limited eye activities during the whole week when I was supposed to be studying!
5) Last but not least, last night around mid-night, Tricia was sitting at my study table "writing" on my notes. Hubby was making his signature drink in the kitchen. I walked 7 feet away from her to watch The Karate Kid that was on TV. 30 seconds later, out of nowhere, Tricia started crying so loud. We were so worried because we didn't know what happened to her. I checked all my stationery: pens, eraser, pencil lead, pen caps... everything was intact. So she did not swallow anything. We checked her mouth.. every inch of it... her throat... her pampers... her legs...  nothing... no cut, no blood, no mark... but she still didn't stop crying. I let her go a few times... Hoping that she would point out which part was painful as she can now say "sakit".  We kept asking her to show it to us but she just continued crying. Hubby suggested taking her out for a drive. To our disappointment, the crying did not stop. Hubby suggested going for an X-ray just to be sure she didn't swallow anything. At that point of time, I was up for anything. I just couldn't bear looking at her suffering like that. But on the way to the hospital, hubby finally said it... Maybe she "saw" something. Well, maybe... Who knows. So hubby put on Yasin and like magic, the crying stop. She finally drank her milk and went to sleep. That was such a relieve. But it was 1am. Whatever energy, enthusiasm I had for the exam before had evaporated. Vanished. It was just too much to bear in such a short span of time.

The exam I think was quite a disaster for me. If it was one of my uni papers, I am quite confident I would have passed it, not with flying colours, of course, but a pass is very possible. But this is the CFA exam we are talking about, where 144K of people are sitting for it worldwide and only about 30% or so pass the respective levels. So irregardless whether I score 40% or 60%, I have more chances of failing that not. Whatever. I told myself this before I sat for the exam: With the amount of things I had to go through before the exam, I forgive myself if I fail the paper. We'll just try again if we feel like it. If not, let's just forget it. I just don't have that energy anymore. At least, not now.

Chinese New Year long weekend

I was really looking forward to the long weekend after a hectic week at work. There were so many public holidays last month, which was nice but translated to shorter working days = longer working hours on the remaining working days. Work had been crazy last week.
As expected, spent the 1st day of holiday on Saturday resting. Woke up late, did light washing, cleaning etc, went to ikea to show hubby some sofabeds and had dinner with mom at Williams, Danau Kota. Sunday, mom came over for lunch at Marriot. 2nd yee sang session for the year. Followed by a 3rd one in the evening with my friends at Taman Tasik Cyberjaya.
Monday morning, woke up before 6am to send mom off to KLIA as she went to visit her friend in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Came back home and resumed my sleep. Hubby's diarrhea got worse and he vomitted a couple of times during the night. Mom diagnosed that he had gastric flu and said he had to go easy on his diet so I decided to cook soup for him. That afternoon, before going out for groceries shopping, after Tricia and I had our shower, as usual, I was kissing her non-stop. Out of a sudden, she pushed me and said "no, no, no". WHAT??? Why can't I kiss my own baby? Sigh. You are growing up too fast laa, sayang. Mama iz sad. :(
The whole 3 days, I had been focusing my time on trying to catch up with my Game Theory homework on coursera.org until I didn't have time to take a look at my CFA syllabus at all. What madness is this? So on the last day of holiday, I finally managed to un-enroll myself from the course. Fuhhh... It took a lot of will to un-enroll because I was more than halfway through already! Hope it will help me focus more on my CFA studies.
So sad to leave Tricia to go to work today. But looking at the bright side, smooth traffic and 3-working days this week. Looking forward to the weekend!

June 2012

Hello, peeps. June is here already, which means I am one year older.
Happy 2x Birthday to me. Hihi.

What update do I have for you? Hmm... let's see:
1) exam - CFA this year was the most straight-forward I have ever sat for but unfortunately I didn't finish covering the whole syallabus so expect to revisit the paper AGAIN next year.
2) money - signed S&P for our 2nd property purchase like finallyyy... With the tightening policy of new loan by BNM, it was SO difficult to get a loan given that I am so highly leveraged. In the end, took up my staff loan, which I had initially saved for the purchase of our dream home later.
3) Batrisyia - she crossed her 7th month last Sunday and is now starting to push her tushie up - the beginning of her crawling phase
pic taken at Abby's wedding
4) Games - Hubby and I were sooo addicted to this game Empire Defense 2 on his tab but unfortunately, after working our ass off to level up, collect crystal and upgrade our soldiers and equipment, the game decided to reset on us, Not Once but TWICE! We basically have to start all over again... Are you mad??? Do you know how many hours we had clocked in for that. That's it! -uninstalled-

18 days to CFA Level 2 2011

I am nervous. As usual, I am NOT prepared, NOT ready and I wished I have more time to study. At the same time, I can't wait for the exam to be OVER! I have a VERY long list of what to do once the exam is over.

1) Spend more time with family and friends: Visit Haslin and baby Daanish, lepak-ing at KL house, lepak-ing in Nilai, go see primary and secondary schoolmates.
2) Play my Wii games... (Oh how I've missed you)
3) Read story books - done with The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and I do, Now what by Guiliana and Bill Rancic...
4) Go on vacationS - Langkawi, Terengganu, China? (if condition permits, ie still safe for me to travel despite being heavily pregnant that time)
5) Shopping baby stuff
6) Learn to cook lots and lots of new recipes ^_^
7) Copy and catch with TV series - Grey's, DH, HIMYM, maybe GG +++
8) Print pictures to decorate the stairway
9) Fix Inspira with a spoiler
10) Buy long overdue GPS for Abg Nad
11) Iron hubby's t-shirts (been putting that on hold since forever)
12) Paint bedroom wall near toilet with anti-fungal paint
13) Start porch renovation
14) Kemas rumah, throw away unwanted items
15) Find new tenant if necessary
16) Settle our bills and speeding tickets. (One left coz discount period is over.)
17) Buy new toner for my printer

and the list goes on and on...
Can't wait!

2 MIRACLES in a week!!!

After a sluggish phase last week, things are picking up a bit finally. It's only the second day into the week and I have already gotten two surprises... MIRACLES really.
1) I have been looking high and low for this close friend of mine from primary school to no avail. We lost contact when we were in form 1, 13 years of age that time. Out of a sudden, 13 years down the road, now at 26, HE himself looked up for me on the Facebook. Like wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... miracle!!!
2) I PASS MY FREAKING CFA LEVEL 1 PAPER!!! That alone is a HUGEEEEEE MIRACLE!
I am sooooooooooo HAPPY!!! Alhamdulillahhhhhh...
Okay, that's it for now. Hehe.
P/s: Level 2 study partners - Layen, Yat, Eu Jin, Hid, Ekmal and hopefully Carmen who is sitting for Lvl 1 in Dec.

Exam

Hi peeps,
Exam is finally over. (Thank God) I can finally breathe. BUT not with peace.
It was a disaster... again. Here comes the IF ONLY I spent more time studying and doing exercise, it could have been better.
How the hell do ppl study while working, being married and have kids all at the same time.
I just don't have enough motivation to push myself towards this goal.
Perhaps nothing is at stake... that's why I lack the motivation & discipline.
Urgh, I envy+admire my friends who are doing well at what they do...
Am definitely proud of them... But when will I get there?
It feels like I have lost my direction now.
I want to feel good about myself again, have a sense of achievement but it's nowhere in sight at this very particular moment. Lucky I have a hubby to go back to everyday. At least, that is something that I look forward to at the end of a tiring, directionless day.

Engagement, Confirmation and PKMC exam!!!

Normally, after a long break from updating the blog, I would only write in when Irna bugs me to. Quite surprised she hasn't been bugging me already. I'm guessing she's either too busy with her life at the moment or she just couldn't be bothered anymore. Anyway, what's (not so) new with me?
1) I'm engaged to my beloved Hazmi on 7th February ^_^
2) I'm confirmed in CIMB (at long last... that took forever!!!)
3) And I am currently sitting for my PKMC exam. =_=
For those who has been wondering how I did in my CFA last December, as expected, I failed. As historical as it is, being the first me failing a major exam, I wasn't actually expecting a pass as I hardly even completed the syllabus, let alone practised answering the questions. Although it is very frustating since it was very costly, I had signed up to sit for it again this December. Wanted to push doing it in June but I just need some space to breathe. With the wedding coming in October, I just can't take in another major event in my life. Sometimes I think there's just so many things to do, catch up with and chase in this phase of life that I just feel like dropping it off altogether but come to think about it again, I thought I shouldn't give up so easily without a good fight. Hope the money spend on the exam would be worth it this time. Alrightey then. Time to start studying and start the countdownS.

The end of 2008 ~The beginning of 2009

Hi peeps... It has been a while... *ehem* well, a looooonnngggg while since the last update. And I am writing this post now... as usual... to fulfill Miss Irna's request for me to update this long forgotten page. Lets see... where do I start?
2008 has been quite a productive year to most ppl ard me. Hmm, what happened to me? Err, nothing much actually. I changed department from Treasury - Debt Capital Market and Syndication to Treasury - Global Sales and Group Funding. It was a great experience "training" under the syndicate team but I am also enjoying my time here at GSGF. Apart from the normal day-to-day work, we have to also entertain clients with events like bowling, movie trips and year-end party (where we got to dance) so it is still quite fun. However, I am still a trainee and hoping to get confirmed by early next year. On a more personal note, I went to Redang with my beloved last October (alongside Ms Irna, Ms Aiya and Mr Aiya), sat for my CFA exam which was quite disastrous and... have been trying to lose weight unsuccessfully. So my new year's resolution would be... (well, not so new year as it has to start now...) losing 6kgs by the end of January!!! So wish me luck.
As for ppl ard me (as you could probably guess), being in the prime age of settling down, there have been a few waves of engagement and marriage ceremonies all ard... not to mention babies. Trying to fit everything in my very tight schedule, I would try my very best to attend the ceremonies at least to those closest to me. I am so sorry to those ppl whose ceremony I failed to attend. It does not mean you are not important to me... it just mean I am not a witch to be at more than one place at the same time (although I would be very much delighted to have that power *wink*). Expecting a few more waves next year, early first half and mid-year, so keep the invitations coming ppl ^_^
And lastly, update on my sweetest man's progress... His farm is now up and running... with 60 hopefully fertile females, 2 very healthy males and 2 cute baby goats. It is just so amazing... From a forest land, it is now a full-fledged, goat rearing farm. Occasionally, mostly on weekends, I would drive over and play with the goats... help to feed them but that's about it. I'm not that much of a help but nevertheless, I am currently moonlighting as a farmer... errr.. no.. a farmer's wife? Hahaha... Anyway, I can proudly say that I am such a lucky girl to have met and have him in my life.
Cheers.

I Passed My Exams!

There can be miracles...
The long awaited day had finally arrived. My exam result is out, officially released at 12pm London time, meaning 7pm Malaysian time, 13th July 2005. I went all the way to Melaka just for this 'special occasion' because I was afraid to check it at home. In the evening, I was very restless, checking my watch every few minutes from 6pm onwards. Went to Cyber Cafe around 9 pm to check my result but the server was busy. Obviously, EVERYONE was checking their results too. Why can't they just check it some other time. I must not be the only one panicking, I guess. Siewch msg me coz she managed to check hers and get through her 1st year. After that, I was even more restless that my bf was actually worried. He tried everything to calm me down. Try to make me smile, took me out for a drink. But everything didn't seem to work.
Then, to my surprise, my dearest bf took me to the beach, bringing with him 2 plastic bags containing a bottle of sparking red grape juice and 2 tall glasses he bought from JJ b4 we went there. In a effort to cheer me up, he planned a very romantic drink on the beach! I was touched, really thankful to have such a sweet bf. Unfortunately, I was still miserable. Tried my best to show him how I appreciate that effort but I think I spoiled the mood for the night. Nevertheless, we sat there, watched the moon and stars, heard the waves hitting the sands, went for a stroll on the beach and just savoured the quiet moments together. I wished the night would never end, for every second with him fills my heart with joy. My worries seemed distant at that time.

At last, b4 he sent me back to Izza's place, we went to the CC again to check my result. Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I clicked 'Exam Result' on LseForYou and was very happy to see that I passed all papers that I sat for, allowing me to proceed to my 2nd year this September. Alhamdullilah, I was so thankful although my result was NOT that satisfactory at all, at least, I don't have to repeat my 1st year. Anyone who has been following my blog at least since June, would have known how worried I was that I might have to repeat my 1st year. Having received that news, I jumped happily around, called my mother who was already asleep, and sms some of my close friends. I just can't stop smiling. Well, now that I passed my papers, I do have to work harder in my 2nd year for I definitely DO NOT WANT to repeat this experience. It was very torturing. In addition, 2nd year papers accounted for 4/9 of the degree and since i do not carry forward a good grade from my 1st year, NO MORE FOOLING around. It's time to work hard... I hope...hmm
